New NetID card launched to help protect children online
A new ID card to protect children online has been launched in the UK, US, Canada and Australia.
UK Businessman Alex Hewitt has launched a new ID card that he hopes will help protect children online. Using software techniques "similar to those used by the passport agency" the card can be acquired using credit card details and a form signed by a person in authority who can verify the child's identity.
The card costs £10 a year and is used to verify the ID of the child when online. The system works if both children in a conversation have signed up to the scheme and requires that they swap their assigned NetID nicknames and then take turns to sign into the service's website. The IDs are only confirmed if both children have entered their email addresses and passwords correctly.
