New sophisticated phishing scam discovered

A new type of phishing email danger has been developed targeting PayPal users.

unlike current phishing scams this one does not involve clicking on a link or opening an attached file. Rather, recipients of this email are told that their account has been compromised and they are provided with a phone number that they should call.

When they call this number they hear a very realistic message, supposedly from PayPal, asking them to verify their account information by entering their card number.

I cannot stress enough the importance of being wary of any email like this. As people become more aware of phishing emails the criminals are devising more and more sophisticated ways to con you into parting with sensitive information.

If you receive any email from PayPal that talks about your account you should immediately forward it to spoof@paypal.co.uk and wait for a response before you follow any of the instructions in it.
