Microsoft has now ended all support for Windows 98 and ME

As reported in an earlier news item, Microsoft has now ended all support for Windows 98, Windows 98 Second Edition and Windows ME.

This means that Microsoft will provide no more telephone support for these aging operating systems, and more importantly will no longer provide any security updates for them.

If you have a computer that is running one of these systems you need to be aware that any further security holes that are identified by virus or Spyware writers will remain a risk on your computer. Also, if hackers find new ways to compromise your computer no more fixes will be made available to stop their access.

Microsoft's advice is that anyone with one of these older computers should seriously consider upgrading to a Windows XP computer.
