Firm develops new magnetic memory chips
A company called Freescale have developed a new type of memory chip that stores information using magnetic properties rather than the traditional electronic charge.
With the current memory that is used in computers and many other devices, any information is lost when the power is turned off. The advantage of these magnetic memory chips is that they will retain information even when there is no power.
Current mobile devices use Flash memory that also retains information when there is no power, however the information tends to degrade over time if there is no power. The new, magnetic chips are a big improvement as they do not lose information and writing and reading information to them will be much quicker.
