New service to help identify 'unsafe' websites launched

One of the most common places for a computer to be infected with Spyware is websites. There are many websites which include software that can be described as Spyware, this may be downloaded automatically when you visit a site or may be software that you download thinking it is a harmless software tool ... but in fact contains Spyware software.

A recent survey by the security firm McAfee has found that many of the sites that are listed in search engine results do in fact contain a Spyware risk.

More worrying, the same survey found that up to four times as many websites that are listed as sponsored links in search results contain harmful software than non-sponsored sites.

A new service launched by the UK company ScanSafe is aimed at helping web user to identify potentially unsafe websites.

Using the Scandoo website people can type in search terms as they would with a standard search engine. However, rather than listing sites in order or importance or popularity the Scandoo site will list sites ranked on how safe they are.
